Platoon Hasty Attack

Used when the Platoon needs to take an enemy position or destroy enemy forces, typically not used on an enemy whose specific location is known

Role of Assault

  • Assault onto the enemy position and clear any trenches/buildings of enemy forces
  • Send in special teams (Search teams, PW teams, Demo teams, Casualty teams)

Role of Support

  • Support the Assault element by fire and win and maintain the firefight

Role of HQ

  • Coordinate support by fire and assault
  • Make decision on type of assault (left/right flank, frontal)

Who does what roles and when

  • The element that comes under fire becomes the Support element, Weapons Detachment is always with Support
  • The elements not under fire or furthest from the enemy contact become the Assault element
  • HQ can add or drop units from either element, making a heavy Support (enemy has heavy weapons) or a heavy Assault (enemy is in buildings)
  • Typically, the Platoon 2iC leads the Support element, while the Platoon Commander leads the Assault element

Typical Scenario

  • Platoon forms 1 Up/2 Up and advances until contact
  • Lead Section(s) conduct their Section Battle Drills, if the contact is too large to deal with, form a firebase (3:1 ratio)
  • Lead Section gives Platoon HQ a CONTACT REPORT
  • If the Lead Section(s) cannot deal with the enemy, the Platoon begins a Hasty Attack
  • Lead Section(s) form a firebase, reserve Section(s) fall back under direction of Platoon 2iC
  • Weapons Detachment moves up with Platoon Commander and is sighted onto the enemy threat
  • Platoon Commander comes back to Assault element with the riflemen from the lead Section
  • Attack plan is organized, Consolidation plan is organized, H-hour is set, fire plan is organized
    • Attack plan example; Assault is flanking left/right or frontal
    • Consolidation plan example; 1 Section consolidates front left, 2 Section front right, 3 Section rear, Weapons have an MG on the 12 O'Clock and fill in the rear, HQ and Section commanders in the centre
    • Fire plan example; H-hour minus 5, artillery, H-hour minus 2, smoke, H-hour minus 1, 60 seconds of rapid rate from firebase, shift and life fire as necessary
    • H-hour is at 1535

[*]Platoon 2iC moves to take control of Support

[*]Platoon Commander gives a CONTACT REPORT to Company HQ and their expected H-hour (if attacking)

[*]Assault moves into position to begin assault on enemy position

[*]Signal is given for support by fire, Assault begins to advance on enemy position, fires are shifted/lifted as necessary

    • Deploy two Sections on line, rifleman from firebase as Reserve, typically

[*]Once Assault has deemed the enemy position clear, consolidation is called

[*]Any special teams are sent back at this point (Search teams, PW teams, Demo teams, Casualty teams)

[*]Elements move into an all around defense of the enemy position, or a position near it, to prepare for an enemy counter-attack

[*]AMMOCAS is conducted and a SITREP is sent to Company HQ

Nice Beta if you don't mind I post my videos of Godhand's last Platoon leaders course so people can watch the lecture part and also see the exercises. If you don't want to have it at this position maybe a mod could move this at the end of the topic once you're finished or delete it and I repost it later but I think the videos would fit here.
