JSRS: DragonFyre EDEN

Recommended Posts

Today I was reminiscing of the ArmA 2 days and JSRS, and thought let me download the ArmA 3 version of it and just give it a go, only to find out that no so long ago Jarhead did an update which apparantly fixes multiplayer issue too

The mod adds over a few thousand new sounds to the game, most ingame sounds are exchanged by these. The mod adds new distance effects to the original DragonFyre2.5 sound framework, new distance explosions and many other features back from the old (heavy scripted) version. All the cool features that could no make it because a certain type or script was needed, which also destroyed the playability for multiplayer, this new Version, called EDEN (because of the Eden Update for ArmA3) can deal with all that. Plus it stays script free. No CBA required and it works a 100% in multiplayer.

Currently downloading it and will test it then give an assessment of what I think, but already I think UO should implement this back into the UO mod-pack if it works and all.

Here's the download page in the website.

A request for JSRS was posted January of this year and chances are the answer will remain the same:

This will never be added onto server due to prior reasons listed over the last 5 years that remain unchanged.
JSRS has always been inferior to Dynasound, something which we will be getting through RHS in the next update.
The most recent sound update to ARMA has provided the potential for JSRS to no longer run poorly, however it has also made the need for a sound pack unnecessary as ARMA has some pretty good sounds now.
1.8GB also makes this a definite no for mandatory addon.

Apart from size and people that told me they had massive MP issues on their servers with this pack, I as well do not like the sounds this pack introduces.

IIRC, people with JSRS were able of lately of hearing things (like distant shots, or vehicles) that people without could not. Since the important TvT component here I'd advise against any sound mod that wont be implemented for everyone.

Used to play with JSRS in ARMA 2 which at the time was an improvement. Personally that Dynasound mod sounds way better than the new JSRS. There are some good comparison videos on Youtube that you can check out.

More than happy to play with just vanilla sounds if it makes server time more inclusive for those with older machines. A standard for all users is important for fair play.
