I managed to have the highest health, will and aim and still managed to do nothing? Well I certainly jinxed it. I'm curious if I just had a lucky roll of NCE or did If I lost movement to compensate. In theory with high aim rolls snapshot wouldn't be to bad either. Hopefully those high stats don't go to waste.

P.S. I'm clearly the volunteer. Yea... thats totally it. Nothin' to see in this avatar.

The RNG gods were simply not kind with you when you did get the chance to use your sniper rifle. The most atrocious miss was when you had an 89% flanking shot on a thin man towards the end (which was not shown due to limitations on amount of images one can post at a time).

This only reinforces my suspicions that Morluck may be a spy for the aliens. Must assign operatives to maintain him  under surveillance at HQ.

Radar detected UFO over Japanese airspace. Raven-1 quickly sent to intercept and shoot down the target. However, satellite images show the craft to be intact after crash landing, with signs of ship personnell moving on site.

Operation Twisted Scepter

Team dispatched to crash site in Japan to secure the shot-down alien craft. Squaddie Morluck also insisted that his time at the target range has already been fruitful, and after half an hour of arguments, we were finally convinced to send him to lead the incursion to the site.

The UFO Scout came down hard in a remote forested location. The debris, knocked down trees and the fire quickly lead the team to the craft proper -- however, they were quickly greeted by the first line of defense formed up by what remained of the crew. Before the team could properly react, the sectoids were already opening fire on the team from fortified positions, with accurate shots gunning down Private Znoop first before the rest of the team scattered into cover.

While Morluck and Best2nd attempted to move to the opposite side of the craft, Private ZEZZ instead charged forward along the treeline to get himself close enough to avenge his fallen comrade with a well-placed grenade. Unfortunately, this quickly caught the attention of a previously un-encountered alien entity now theorized to have been the commander of the craft; seemingly materializing itself around a crystal-like object and quickly moving to intercept the team along with further sectoids moving in from around the craft, and despite Morluck and Best2nd's attempts to intercept the reinforcements, they instead took fire from both the Sectoids and the alien entity now designated as "Outsider", suffering severe burns from concentrated plasma fire. A quick fighting withdrawal, however, resulted in successfully drawing out the mind-melded sectoids into a position where Best2nd could land a killing shot, and the Outsider straight into being exposed within Morluck's scope -- the former finally proving his marksman credentials by firing a bullet straight through the crystal acting as the entity's center, resulting in immediate disintegration.

Thermal images from satellites confirmed no more movement within the site. Salvage team moved on to the site to dismantle the UFO's remains and recover Znoop's body along with the extracting combat team.

OPERATION END

Another ceremony was held today in honor of Private Znoop. The troops' morale seems to have taken a particular hit with his death that came without him even getting a chance to prove himself in battle properly. Thankfully, four new recruits recently arrived at HQ, too, to bolster our manpower.  I fear I can't quite bring myself to tell them that if what we have seen of the aliens is only a taste of what they are able to throw at us, their life expectancies may not be much longer than those of Ratlover and Znoop. Maybe they will prove me wrong. I hope they do.

Team dispatched to intercept Alien activity in Lyons, France.

The operation proceeded as a prime textbook example. The team moved through the urban centre of Lyons, quickly and efficiently eliminating all aliens within with no injuries sustained. Even Squaddie Gusy seems to have gotten over his unexplained rage towards inanimate objects, and is now directing it instead at the aliens. However, the recently recruited Private Lancer did cause some considerable property damage to a book store. Expect an invoice for damages along with a sternly-worded letter sent from the owner to XCOM. Still haven't decided if should cover part of the damages with Lancer's paycheck.

Doing three missions per post from here on, to speed things up a little, unless if a mission turns out to be particularly eventful.

April 7th, 2015

Operation Shattered Hawk

jMQ3iCy.png

Squad dispatched to respond to alien activity within Shanghai, China. Also, various clutter of junk hoarded by the Skyranger pilot was moved away, thus clearing space for a fifth operative within the craft. The pilot has been reprimanded for his hoarding habits.

0dSEjpw.png

For some reason, alien presence was reported gathering within a combined slaughterhouse and butcher's shop. Intel team has still not managed to determine what exactly it is the aliens were looking for there. Private Flying Spaghetti Monster suggested that "The steaks sold there could just be THAT good", and the science team is now studying if the aliens eat similiar food for sustainment as humans.

The team arrived on site quickly to find a concentration of Thin Men around the Butcher's Shop. Sergeant Pax'Jarome was hit by plasma fire during his approach to get into range for eliminating one of the Thin Men with his shotgun, but after eliminating the Thin Men at the front of the shop, the team quickly swept through the building and eliminated the remaining Thin Men.

ax5PC0G.png

tm7tP9x.png

LLtJI85.png

After moving on to the Slaughterhouse proper, the team discovered a new type of X-ray (designated now as Seekers), possessing some kind of camoflauge technology. However, the team quickly discovered that the aliens become visible again right before attacking, and took advantage of it by huddling together where they could cover each other, consequently taking out both Seekers when they attempted to assault the operatives at close range.

bGcSh7p.png

B8Irvk5.png

The site was declared clear of further alien presence, and the team returned to the Skyranger for extraction. Sergeant Pax'Jarome has been committed to the infirmary for critical burn wounds, and Privates AC337 and Flying Spaghetti Monster have been put forward for promotions.

OPERATION END

APRIL 10th, 2015

OPERATION DEMON STALLION

VFi8KvZ.png

Team dispatched to Lyons, France, to investigate the attacked convoy.

mpq4jxz.png

Team found the whole city block to be in ruins, with most of the convoy's vehicles destroyed or disabled and human bodies littered throughout the area. Upon further movement, small pockets of Thin Men were discovered.

8C1Jprk.png

DlE9Axh.png

The Thin Men sent some kind of toxic clouds at Squaddies Whisper and Corporal Morluck, but thankfully the newly enlisted Sergeant Ekyel was medically trained, and was able to quickly neutralize the poison from their bodies, allowing the team to quickly fight through the Thin Men on the streets. The team also noted that all of the human bodies did not have the distinct burns on them that plasma weapons typically caused. The current hypothesis is that the convoy was attacked by a human group. The alien interest on the site could still not be explained, however.

iqn3UPf.png

ppVV5gH.png

lMkub4J.png

After further movment following the line of destroyed convoy vehicles, the team found a survivor: one that clearly was not with the convoy's personnell, and was characterized by Squaddie Gusy as "really fucking rude". Bruising on the survivor's face is attributed to have been a result of the survivor making remarks about Sergeant Ekyel's mother.

ttdGDcD.png

After securing and restraining the survivor, the team returned to fighting through more Thin Men and an inexplicable single sectoid to get back to the Skyranger. Squaddie Best2nd chose to use his rocket launcher to take care of x-ray's on the roof that were threatening to overwhelm Squaddie Whisper, initially, but the rocket veered off away from any hostile targets. Squaddie Best2nd claimed the sighting system on the launcher to have been faulty, but taking into account that the rocket veered so far away from it's intended target that it threatened to injure Squaddie Whisper, the claims are considered to be doubtable at best. Even so, the team managed to return to the skyranger without any further issues.

After returning to HQ, the survivor was sent to the brig to await interrogations. Corporal Morluck also showcased severe reaction to his Thin Man -induced poisoning despite Sergeant Ekyel's medical attention on the field, and was moved to the infirmary for further treatment.

OPERATION LAZY SKULL

Efe6Slc.png

Interceptors splashed another UFO in Japanese airspace. Team dispatched to raid the crash site.

aPeMMj6.png

The UFO came down near a road-side restaurant, but thankfully did not seem to cause any injuries on civilians on site.  Upon movement to the roadhouse itself to make sure that no civilians were present, the team encountered yet another new type of Alien (now designated as Floaters). Though one of the two Floaters were dispatched quickly, the second put Squaddie Lancer down under heavy suppressive fire-- thankfully Squaddie Kalohepirate moved in quickly to try to eliminate the target. The shotgun blast from close range somehow was still not enough to take the Floater down even so, but it did open up a safe period for Lancer to return fire, finishing the alien off before it could respond to Lancer's close proximity.

QGuano1.png

lsBykMD.png

9GxzJwQ.png

The team moved on from there towards the crashed alien craft itself, and encountered two Seekers-- but rather than waiting for them to show themselves again after camoflauging themselves, they used a liberal application of hand grenades to reveal the seekers' positions and proceeded to destroy them before they had a chance to go on a proper offensive. Afterwards, Squaddie Kalohepirate stormed the UFO on his own (accompanied by a yell of "RAMBO!" from Squaddie AC337 sent after him), and took down the Outsider inside.

The crash site was successfully secured, salvage teams were sent on site and the combat team returned to HQ without any injuries.

OPERATION COLD SAVIOUR

Due to neglicence of the intelligence division (aka I forgot to take screenshots), no photographic material could be retained of the operation. Still, operatives Gusy, Ekyel, Best2nd, Rustyclutch and Gibfender were sent to intercept alien activity within Mexico City, Mexico, chasing sectoids and floaters into a road-construction site in the middle of the city and eliminating all resistance. Sergeant Ekyel did, however, take hits from plasma weaponry during his valiant movement to flanking a group of floaters, and has been moved to infirmary for recovery.

However, right after the operation was declared complete, Doctor Vahlen sent in reports on their most recently finished research, including schematics for new, experimental body armor. Dr Shen's team was able to immediately manufacture two units of them with the hopes that the survivability of our team can be significantly increased.

April 18th, 2015

OPERATION EMPTY BREATH

8EU3KM8.png

Interceptors splatted an UFO over United Kingdom. Larger than the previous two. Team sent to raid the crash site. Also, Corporal Kalohepirate and Squaddie ZEZZ were given the new pieces of body armor for field testing, seeing as they with their choice of weaponry leaves them most likely to come under fire.

c7hpsBC.png

The effectiveness of the Carapace Armor was immediately proven after the team's first contact with Seekers at the crash site, even if it came by virtue of Corporal Kalohepirate accidentally throwing a grenade too close in the effort to reveal the seekers' position. All shrapnel was lodged into the plating of the armor without reaching the Corporal's skin proper, leaving him ultimately unharmed. And with the first Seeker revealed, Corporal Best2nd eliminated it quickly, with the following one annihilated by Kalohepirate and ZZEZ's combined shotgun blasts.

fimkMNT.png

HDjjxTP.png

The combined explosion and gunfire drew in a pair of floaters and sectoids, however, with one of the Floaters killed immediately upon their approach. Squaddie ZEZZ, however, took a heavy hit from a mind-melded Sectoid that burned even through the Carapace Armor. Further study did determine, however, that without the thicker armor the plasma would have burned straight through ZEZZ's chest otherwise, so the armor did save his life. Must send thanks to Dr Vahlen and Dr Shen.  Meanwhile, Squaddie Flying Spaghetti Monster quickly moved in to kill the sectoid before it could do any more damage, with Kalohepirate moving in to kill both the remaining sectoid and floater.

AFterwards, the team breached the crashed craft itself and the sweep through it determined that most of the surviving crew was already dealt with outside, so they moved on to locate the bridge of the vessel, breaching it to overwhelm the Outsider within with sheer numbers.

Hkx2Bro.png

WIth the crash site cleared, the team returned back to the skyranger. Squaddie ZEZZ has been moved to the infirmary for treatment, but full recovery is expected.

OPERATION BLEEDING THRONE

k99HJ1l.png

Team sent to Shanghai, China, to meet up with the Triad contact.

zUEz0Fd.png

ReVoqbw.png

1dTnGmW.png

The team found the contact without incident, and agreed to bring him and the device in his possession to the Skyranger for asylum with XCOM. However, the device itself seemed to attract aliens to the graveyard used as the meeting location.

KR8owtd.png

D0Wc2ox.png

The team fought through the Thin Men trying to intercept them easily enough, although the team reports that one of them was somehow floating in the air directly above them, with photographic evidence to prove the report. No other Thin Men demonstrated this particular ability, so the science team has not been able to explain the phenomenon.

GRehddN.png

Apparently, the aliens REALLY wanted the device in the HVI's possession, however. A new type of alien (now designated as 'Muton') was airdropped to the graveyard, and it proved to be the toughest enemy we have encountered yet. The hulking creature took concentrated machinegun fire, a grenade and finally a killing shot from Squaddie Hellhound's sniper rifle to take it down.

o2luP3v.png

VyuVC2N.png

ziOGMzJ.png

EAyOE8k.png

After the muton was eliminated, one more THin Man was encountered, with Corporal Best2nd taking fire and suffering severe burns over his right arm. Sergeant Pax'Jarome, however, retaliated immediately with his SlugPharma shotgun at close range.

jjPoC8e.png

IdehGAS.png

The team moved on to return to the Skyranger, and extracted to HQ. The device is now under study with the science team and the HVI has volunteered himself as an operative for XCOM.

OPERATION END

The missions have been going incredibly well lately, all things considered. Some of our operatives have suffered some injuries, but nothing life-threatening, and everyone in the infirmary should be able to return to combat eventually. You know? I'm getting the feeling that everything will be just fi-

This feels like a bad tease. I know I am in the med-bay for plasma burns allergies but I want to see my characters nickname already! Maybe I am in time for the terror mission?

Unfortunately, you are literally one day away from being sent out of the infirmary. (Also, it's 'Echo')

On that note, I am genuinely having a hard time deciding who to send out for this one. THe very first Terror Mission is always the most difficult one on account of the relatively small time alllowed for preparing for it, and even though we do have the resources to equip everyone in the squad with Carapace Armor, Chrysalids still effectively deal 9 points of damage on Classic, and right now we have only one soldier (Gusy) out of the infirmary who is able to survive that even with Carapace Armor... UNtil the poison took the rest of their health away. And we the only support soldier we had available capable of carrying more than one medkit is in the infirmary, too.

I don't think everyone's gonna make it out of this one alive, guys.

I should not try to do things with four hours of sleep. I intended to record the terror mission but me in my fatigued deliriousness completely messed up setting up the codec for my recording software properly. There won't be proper progress report today. Long story short: Gusy, Pax'Jarome, Whisper, Hellhound and Lancer were sent to the terror mission and they killed all the aliens without even taking any damage, against all expectations.

I'm gonna go sleep now. Back to our regularly scheduled programming on sunday.

Reading this has given me certain urges...

Started playing again myself, glad I have as I bought Enemy Within but then never actually played it!

Also would like to sign up! Bullets are cheap, life is expensive....

Yes. Dr Vahlen has suggested that we need to capture live alien speciments now for more appropriate study of their biology -- and more importantly, actually interrogating them. The notion is a particularly risky one, but nonethless, a containment facility and equipment for nonlethally taking down an alien are already under production.

Unfortunately, the Council has reported that Argentina has withdrawn from participating in the XCOM project. THere was absolutely nothing we could do about their eventual withdrawal at this point. We can merely hope that we can keep panic levels under check with new satellite launches from here on out.

Interceptors have splashed yet another UFO over Japan. Team dispatched to raid the crash site.

The UFO crashed straight into the top floors of a high-rise building in Tokyo, which made the raid even more time-sensitive than usual. Thankfully, the team got on site quickly and managed to clear the building of all alien survivors of the crash landing without incident.

OPERATION SILENT DAWN

Team sent to respond to alien activity in Vancouver, Canada. Corporal Kalohepirate was also equipped with the experimental non-lethal sidearm that Dr Vahlen and Dr Shen developed together.

The team located the X-Rays converging in a rest stop by a western MSR leading into the city proper, seemingly using the building as a forward operating base for their abduction operations. Immediately upon arrival on site, the team was greeted by the sight of two mutons and half a dozen floaters. The team attempted to move into cover for properly engaging the contact, but the mutons' reaction movement was lethally quicker, resulting in one of them moving along the rooftop of the building to fire plasma down onto Corporal Kalohepirate -- and even in spite of the newly developed armor, the concentrated fire from the muton's plasma rifle managed to arc over the corporal's cover and burn straight through the thick armor plating. Later autopsy showed that the plasma burned a hole straight through the armor and exploded his heart. Death was instantenous.

With the overwhelming numbers of aliens and the death of Kalohepirate, the squad left all intentions of taking any alien alive quickly behind; Squaddie AC337 fired a rocket onto the muton on the roof, severely damaging the hulking creature with Corporal Lancer finishing the alien off.

That one's for Kalohe, you son of a bitch

The death of the first muton and a rain of suppressive fire from Gusy prompted the second muton to fall back further towards the gas station portion of the rest stop. The floaters pressed on their attack, however, and concentrated on Squaddie AC337 with their fire. Though he attempted to return fire, the sheer number of the Floaters overwhelmed him-- destroying the wall he was using as cover, first, before landing several lethal shots on him.

Apparently the plasma also burned his hair off before he died...

Continuing to fight back and killing several floaters, the team attempted to press further into the building lead by Lieutenant Gusy -- unfortunately, the Lieutenant quickly found out that the remaining muton and the last three floaters had taken fortified positions within the next room, and fired upon him during his attempted advance. His armor managed to keep him alive through the severe burns he suffered, thankfully, enough that he could retreat back for medical treatment with Corporal Lancer while Squaddie Lexi provided covering fire against the floaters that attempted to give chase.

Still need you in this fight, buddy.

After regrouping and determining the remaining Floater and Muton would not leave their position, the remaining three operatives decided to circle around the building, instead, and move to breach the room through a side door instead. Apparently not having expected a flanking maneuver, the two aliens were quickly gunned down just before a pair of Seekers came upon the building, only to be swiftly dealt with by a combination of explosives and prejudiced assault rifle fire.

With the Seekers destroyed, the site was declared clear, and after conducting first aid on themselves, the remnants of the team gathered up the bodies of Kalohepirate and AC337, returning to the Skyranger for extraction back to HQ. Gusy and Kalohepirate were put forward for promotions, but both have also been admitted into the infirmary. Lancer's wounds are not particularly severe, but Gusy could not even move anymore after the skyranger returned to HQ -- it's impressive that he managed to continue fighting for as long as he did, frankly, but he is not expected to get out of the recovery ward anytime soon due to the extent of his injuries.

OPERATION END

So much for no more casualties. RIP AC337 and Kalohepirate. Let's hope their deaths will not have been in vain by the end of all this.
