Myself, Fusion and Centron as well as a buddy from my work are going to group together. We are planning to find a border system and fight in some of the wars/battles. Does any one else currently group or wanna group with us. We would like to fly with as many people as possible.

Feel free to add me guys. Would love to join you, right now I'm heavily involved in trading. Just picked up a cobra. I definitely be down for some semi-organized sessions. And I know in the near future with the wings update, it appears the coordinatedco-op is going to become a viable reality. I'll.add you guys. See you in space!in-game in ComradeLucifer.

Waiting for Wings to hit before I really start playing but am currently in the eagle bounty hunting grind phase before I grab a cobra and go rares trading to make a boatload of cash. Currently down in Jotunheim with goons at the moment but once I get a ship with range flying around will be no problem. THEGOBBLER in game.

Get an Adder.

Seriously, don't wait for the Cobra, get an Adder first.

The Adder is not an Hauler+: it's a multi-role ship like the Sidewinder or Cobra and is roughly between the two in performance, with similar speed and agility as a Sidewinder, but somewhat less cargo and firepower than a Cobra.

You should be able to easily get one from either Kimura Terminal in Atlantis or Adams Orbital in Beta-1 Tucanae.

Well, the beta for 1.2 is out and it introduces the "wings" mechanic where up to 4 players can fly in the same group with added UI functions and gameplay mechanics to help keep cohesion.

Forum thread here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=120649

Of note, beside the newly introduced wings, is that amongst the changes players can cannibalize their own modules to jury-rig one that was completely destroyed and that now heat can damage modules as soon as the internal temperatures climbs to above 100% and hull damage will occur now at 160% and above. Also two new ships added.

The beta runs on a different build that has to be downloaded separately and that runs on a different server.

Elite: Dangerous 1.2 "Wings" update was uploaded this afternoon, introducing two new, expensive ships for the 1% to enjoy and a massive overhaul to the communication screen adding the ability to create wings of up to 4 players to fly and fight together.

The tl;dr version is that it's pretty damned awesome.

But if you feel like reading, here's an explanation of the most important gameplay changes with this update.

I'll get the internal heat change out of the way first, since it's an easy one to explain: what was 150% internal heat in the previous version, is now 100%; when a ship goes above the new 100% internal heat, the modules of the ship (not the Hull) start taking damage; if the internal temperature climbs above 150% (the old 200%), the Hull also starts taking damage which will lead to the eventual destruction of the ship.

Another quick change is the rebalancing of repair costs and the payout of bounties and stolen cargo: fixing your ship, even a very big one, is considerably less expensive than before; stolen cargo sold on the Black Market sells for a lot more and bounties have had their value increase considerably allowing combat pilots to have higher margins of profits; trading is still the main way of making money, but this is a step into reducing the gap currently present between merchants and every other type of pilot out there.

Lastly we have the new Wing mechanic and the two main changes it brings to the game:

the first change is that now NPC will usually be part of wings of their own where, unlike previously, they will cooperate and assist each other during a fight instead of just following a single ship and then just acting on their own when combat broke out.

Additionally, Unidentified Signal Sources have been modified with the addition of Weak and Strong Signal Sources: there two new types of USS work like the old one, spawning a random encounter in space, but WSS will generally tend to spawn encounters that can be handled by a single player (eg: a pair of pirate Sidewinders) while SSS are designed to challenge a full wing of 4 players by having encounters like a small Imperial/Federal Navy fleet, a wing of Master and Elite-level pirate Anacondas to full-on pirate flottilas! Meanwhile the standard USS is in-between the two in difficulty.

The biggest change, however, is the ability for players to group up in said wing, with the HUD showing the status and target of your wingmen, granting an intra-wing radio channel using the excellent in-game VOIP system and the ability to slave your NavComputer to that of a wingman so that when he jumps to a different system/drops out of SuperCruise or is interdicted/is interdicting another system allowing his wingmen to quickly jump into the same location automatically just by flying close enough.

Additionally warrant, cargo and planetary scan are shared amongst the wing members; bounties are also split as long as a wingman scored some hits on a target and when a trader sells his cargo all his wingmen gets a bonus that is payed directly by the Pilots' Federation to encourage players to escort fellow traders.

Additionally a debug camera has been enabled allowing a player to access an external camera, which is pretty handy for taking screenshots.

Oh and the Vulture and Fer-De-Lance ships were added, but they cost 22 millions and 100 millions credits respectively, so meh.

Edit:

Frontier released a tutorial video explaining the new Wing mechanics:

More news from Frontier: in today hotfix they outright removed the price multiplier for larger ships when buying fuel so that 1t of hydrogen fuel will cost the same regardless if you are flying in a Sidewinder or an Anaconda.

Additionally, they are planning on reducing the prices of dedicated combat ships, although I suspect that it will only have a noticeable impact with the Vulture and Fer-De-Lance since the Eagle and Viper are already pretty cheap and I believe that the other crafts are classified as either traders or multi-role. Outfitting them probably won't change, though, so a lot of money is still going to be needed to upgrade them past the stock specs.

Edit 03/12:

well, the patch with the price changes is out and the Vulture dropped from 22M to 5 millions, while the FDL dropped from over 100M to around 50ish.

As with every major update, Frontier has released an official trailer showcasing the main additions to the game:

Is that... the space engineers starting ship?

The yellow one? It's a Lakon Type-7 and like all Lakon ships it would fit well in Space Engineers.

Each of the major ship-building corporations has a specific look they go with their ships, with Faulcon-DeLacey going for wedge shapes, Lakon making cargo holds with engines strapped to them, Gutamaya going for a sleek "Apple-like" fancy look and so on and so forth.

The attention to detail and consistency with the art design is pretty cool, since you can see a ship and tell at a glance who made it in-universe.

So ive upgraded to an ASP with 20 light year jump range and have started trading. Quiet a big jump up in my storage capacity and size along with everything from my Viper but im still outfitted with some defensive turrets in case of any combat.

The Elite community has been good when it comes to create videos, but this new introductory video is pretty fantastic, since it covers all the basics necessary to take off and land at a station in the next system over.

Late to the party but picked this up and enjoying it so far.

The video tutorials and ingame one's pretty much explained everything I needed to get going. The rest was just exploring and trying out things.

I've been using a Vulture for a few days now.. it's good fun. But a Vulture loaded for combat has much poorer endurance than what I'm used to (also own an explorer-loaded ASP). I'm currently in the ALMAD* system, along with many others I suspect, burning ships for some imperial chick. Although, I'm currently shying away from Open Play due to being killed twice in docking problems.. Anaconda docking problems that is.

In-Game name: KAIL ASTIN

*edit pfft ALBAD.. ALMAD.. similar.

Been playing this pretty religiously. Been bounty hunting pretty successfully too. (Just cashed in 800k at one time, spent it all on A3 upgrades for the Viper lol)

Would be interested in doing some Wing Trading, whether it be as a guard for you, or I can invest in a good trade vessel and use my flight skills to get the freight where it needs to go.
