Template Platoons (A2)

Recommended Posts

Given the lengthy nature of the old thread, I'm compiling many of the old posts into one list, so as to prune out the broken links and make it a bit easier to peruse.  Feel free to continue adding on, and I'll keep pitching templates into the first post for reference. No promises are made as to the validity of these gearscripts, as some of them are quite old and ACE changed a few functions and variables about, so always check the scripts for functionality before use, especially JIP gear duplication and backpack issues.

British:

Armoured or Mechanised Infantry Platoon (Modern)

On advice from headshot, I can see that it's pretty much been posted here already, but posting full British platoon ORBAT with weapons and equipment. Obviously in real situations this is dynamic and can change at a moments notice but this is the general idea. It's rare to see SUSAT's operationally now but they still make an appearance now and again.

All the info below is from a full time Infanteer, this is how my Battalion, Company and Platoon usually does their orbat, bearing in mind that each Battalion may operate slightly or substantially differently.

Foreword notes:

-If the platoon is mounted up in vehicles then drivers will come from the sections, not be extras, and drivers/top cover gunners/commanders will carry sidearms. Basically this means that if you have your sections rolling in Jackals, 3 out of 4 of every fireteam will carry a sidearm. May as well make it the full 4 just for shits and giggles because that's usually what happens anyway.

-Usually at least 2 out of every 4 fireteam members will have smoke.

-IRL only the first 2 members of every fireteam carry grenades but this is arma so smash 'em on.

-All members of a section will carry a daysack (backpack) contaning a reasonable amount of spare ammo for their primary weapon, plus LMG ammo if required- see rifleman notes below. I've been seeing a lot of brit fighting patrol missions where nobody has kit; doesn't happen.

-All members of a section will have personal night vision equipment.

-Section commanders usually carry GPS.

-NOBODY USES HOLOGRAPHIC SIGHTS ON L85's

HQ

Pl. Commander- 2LT/1LT/CAPT- L85a2 SUSAT/ACOG//Sidearm. Pl. Comds will provide general orders to their section commanders to execute the mission largely as they see fit. (unless the situation requires specific conditions to be met)

Pl. Sgt- SGT- L85a2 SUSAT/ACOG// L128A1 Shotgun with Holo (M1014, guise)//Sidearm.- Platoon sergeants usually control a security element made up of members of the sections (usually a fireteam) in a static situation (IE Ambush, Defence) but otherwise they co-ordinate with section 2ic's to redistribute ammunition etc. General platoon logistics. Not much use in-game as it can much more easily be done through Sect. Comd's via long range.

2x Attached CMT's (Combat Med Techs-) PVT/LCPL/CPL- L85a2 SUSAT/ACOG- Sufficient Med supplies to stabilize a fireteam's worth of T1 Casualties in the field in worst case scenario (In an ArmA sense I'd say carry as much med supplies as possible because t1 t2 t3 etc don't really exist)

NOTE ON CMT's; Usually EVERYONE in a section is team medic trained but CMT's are still to hand to be attached to the sections as necessary.

Platoons consist of 3x section of 8 members plus HQ element. As Herbiie said, any extras will be attached to the HQ element. Fire support elements will usually come as a section from the Fire support company of a given battalion (Aside from their LMGs and sometimes GPMGs if a section is designated as a Fire Support Section a rifle platoon doesn't really have any additional fire support within the platoon) and assigned by HQ as necessary. More often than not in Afghanistan, Platoons will not operate as sections but rather as 2x "Multiples", one led by the PL Comd and one led by the PL SGT.

Section ORBAT

CHARLIE FIRETEAM Section Commander- CPL- L85a2 ACOG/SUSAT/CWS*/UGL- Section commanders will not always carry a UGL, sometimes another rifleman will do it. (*I think the CWS is called the AWS in ArmA/ACE? Whoever carries a CWS will have a normal sight IE ACOG/SUSAT to use in daylight and then will switch to CWS at night.)

CHARLIE FIRETEAM Gunner- PVT- L110A1 SUSAT (As far as I'm aware there's no SUSAT version of the Para Minimi in Arma/ACE which is shitty)- Up to 500 rounds dependant on combat situation. Usually in 100 round soft pouches or loose as belts. The minimum that a Gunner will usually carry is 200 rounds, usually for likely short contacts or when resupply is close at hand. NOTE: If the Section Commander is not carrying Charlie Fireteam's CWS, the Gunner will usually have the honor. Which trust me, just makes a heavy beast heavier.

CHARLIE FIRETEAM Rifleman- PVT- L85a2 SUSAT/ACOG- The Rifleman directly behind a given Gunner in the Order of March will generally carry some spare ammunition for him, this will usually be in the ballpark of 100 to 400 rounds.

CHARLIE FIRETEAM Rifleman/Grenadier/AT (Situation dependant)- PVT- L85a2 ACOG/SUSAT- UGL if grenadier- LASM (M72 LAW) if Anti-Structure, sometimes AT will still carry LASM but may instead use NLAW or more commonly AT-4. NLAW is more common (but still not as common as Javelin) with Fire Support platoons than it is with infantry platoons, they'll more likely have an AT4 or LASM. But realistically speaking I'd say go with whatever AT/AS weapon suits the situation you're putting the players in. REGULAR INFANTRY WILL NOT CARRY JAVELINS! That's a fire support platoon thing, so if you want javelins then add a fire support section. Their orbat will be pretty much the same, but with Weapon user/assistant pairs instead of fireteams. Same as US army/Marines fire support.

DELTA FIRETEAM Section 2/IC- LCPL- L85a2 ACOG/SUSAT/CWS (notes on CWS same as above but the 2ic will ALWAYS carry a CWS- No palming it off to his gunner!)

DELTA FIRETEAM Gunner- PVT- L110A1 SUSAT- Notes same as above.

DELTA FIRETEAM Rifleman- PVT- L85a2 SUSAT/ACOG- Notes same as above.

DELTA FIRETEAM Rifleman/Grenadier/AT (Situation dependant)- Notes same as above.

One last point of note- You may have noticed that for every l85a2 I've put SUSAT/ACOG, for a simple reason. There's a lot of Northern Ireland missions involving brits going around lately, If it's NI (OR IRAQ!) then they're not likely to have ACOGs, so smash SUSAT's on everything. If it's Afghanistan etc then whack an ACOG on it. I hope it makes sense and it's not too hard to read, any major dramas or questions just give me a poke in TS and I'll be glad to help.

Each rifleman carried 5 magazines with them and had 5 more in their backpacks which they always left with the vehicles, 1-2 older granade, 1 orange smoke, gasmask.

RPGs and PKM belts were cross loaded or on the vehicles.

In each platoon, one soldier from one of the squads was designated as radioman, and had to carry the radio, the P-159 in this case. Each platoon had unique callsign.

Only platoon leaders were issued with a map, compass and maptools.

The mortar crew consisted of the gunner who carried the tube and his assistant, who carried the baseplate. The rounds were on the vehicle.

Company command did not have a portable radio, they used the vehicle rack on the UAZ (Gaz).

There were 3 types of infantry: Light, Medium, Heavy

Light: Each Squad had one or two UAZ (Gaz IRL)

Medium (or Motorized): Each squad had a Ural.

Heavy (or Mechanized): BRDM-2 (PSZH irl) or BTR-70/80 where the drivers and gunners were part of the 'Motorized company' which was another unit in the infantry regiment.

I will upload it once I finished editing the CDF uniforms to look like hungarian ones.

Glorious YPRs updated(PaInf YPR)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zh21hmled2hax3b/NL85_Mechinf.utes.rar

Some things to note with this orbat:

  • Vehicles don't currently have gear in them, because their load would depend on the mission, a standard load(of a glorious YP-408, not a YPR) of a section's vehicle would roughly be though:
    • 4x 100rnd box MAG 7.62
    • 8x M72 LAW
    • 1x first aid kit
    • 18x frag grenade
    • 18x smoke grenade
    • 18x 100nd box M2 .50(not applicable to YPR-765, but if you decide to use a vehicle with an M2 on top, it will have 18 spare belts of M2
  • The standard load of a platoon command section's vehicle(again, YP-408)
    • VS panel set
    • 8x M72 LAW
    • [24x 84mm round CG + 2x CG] OR [6x M47 Dragon + 1x FN MAG] (if you do either of these, you have to remember: the two CGs were used earlier in the cold war, and were replaced by the dragons. If you use the Dragons, remember, the teams are already carrying 4, so there'll only be 2 in the vehicle's gear)
    • 18x frag grenade
    • 18x smoke grenade
    • 9x 100nd box M2 .50(not applicable to YPR-765, but if you decide to use a vehicle with an M2 on top, it will have 18 spare belts of M2)
  • The 4th vehicle in the platoon will be carrying a long range radio(most fitting would be PRC-77 probably)
  • The company's mortar platoon carried 52 mortar rounds per vehicle
  • In real life the TOW platoon used a TOW carrier(YPR-765 PRAT, but we do not have anything similar in the modpack)

If needed, the squad will cary a Pzf-3 with Dynarange sight(not in arma atm).

For arma terms, the C7 could be any M16 variant, IRL the C7 has an aimpoint and 4x magnifier. The C8 could be any M4A1, same attachments as C7.

The C7 LSW is a heavy barreled C7 with a bipod, you could use an M27 IAR, or you could use an L86 LSW if you want.

FN MAG would be the M240 without heat cover, in real life the MAG has an elcan scope on it.

If vehicles are required, in real life the marines use the BVS10 Viking, but that's not in arma.

Other vehicles the marines use are the Land Rover Defenderr and the Mercedes-Benz 280 CDI.

Marines are also trained as air assault, and they can deploy from british helis too.

1985 Royal Netherlands Army armoured infantry company(dismounted)

Download link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y0gp7g6jxk7zupz/NL85_Mechinf_dismount.utes.rar

This is an armoured infantry company that is operating dismounted, to make it a mounted company, you will have to give every squad a YPR-765 or M113 with a driver and gunner, who both have UZIs. The mortar platoon gets M113s(stand in for machinegun YPR). The ATGM platoon should have YPR ATGM carriers, but we do not have anything like it, so you could either just give them landrovers, normal YPRs, or ATGM BRDM-2s.

The company has 125 slots, it consists of:

Company CO section

Company XO section

Company 1SG section

3x Infantry platoon(per platoon: 3x FN Mag, 3x Carl Gustav, 2x Dragon ATGM)

Further notes about the company:

The company has 80 LAW rocket launchers available, currently it only has 10 in there, so feel free to add 70 more.

The Platoon HQ section has 2x Dragon and 1x FN Mag available, the first Dragon ATGM can be switched out for an FN Mag.

2012 Royal Netherlands Army airmobile infantry company

Download link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zyuual3a77ad7zd/NL_AirmobileCoy.utes.rar

This is an airmobile infantry company of the 11th airmobile brigade, what's interesting about these companies is that they have a lot different units organic to the company so the company is very versatile.

The company has 121 slots, consisting of:

Company Command group, CO and XO, they have one GD250 wolf.

Zulu group, company level medevac, has 2 medevac teams with GD250 wolfs.

Foxtrot group, a group consisting of two RTOs, generally acting as CO's and XO's RTOs.

Whiskey group, a 6 man recon group.

Mike group, a 9 man mortar group, with 3x 81mm mortar.

Kilo group, a 9 man ATGM group, realistically they'd have Spike MRATs mounted on LSVs, but since we don't have them in arma, we'll have to settle on puny javelins.

3x Infantry platoon

Romeo group, 4 man platoon command group, platoon commander has a handheld and a ruck radio, though he will often give his ruck radio to one of the group's riflemen, and have them act as his RTO.

Alpha group, 9 man infantry section, operates similar to commonwealth 8 man sections, section has it's own combat lifesaver.

Bravo group, identical to alpha group.

Echo group, platoon seargant's group, this is a 5 man group that deals with extracting casualties at a platoon level, handing them off to company level medevac.

Sierra group, the platoon's sniper team, armed with an l115.

yiiQf.png

Transport arrangements:

Dutch aircraft available in arma: Chinook, C130, though they will often fly in aircraft from other countries like blackhawks, in real life they'd also often fly in RNLAF Cougars.

Ground: they'd be driving in Patria XA-188s(don't have those in arma, closest thing is Fuchs), Bushmaster MRAPs(closest thing Dingo), and Mercedes Benz GD290 sofftops armed with FN Mags, GMGs or M2s(don't have any of those in arma).

Further notes about the company:

Infantry groups will often carry Panzerfaust-3s, it is also possible that they might get old AT-4s(phased out years ago, but not unlikely that they have some left).

The company and platoon level medevac crews allow the company to rapidly handle casualties without holding up the company.

Irish Defence Forces Infantry Company with attachments

With the addition of Steyrs into the modpack and using all of the other resources already in the mod pack, I was able to create an IDF orbat based off an Infantry coy with full attachments. As in, the 3 rifle platoons, plus the attached weapons platoon with their individual detachments to be placed where the Coy Co feels necessary. An entire MOWAG (Stryker M2s) squadron for the company transport, a single troop of MOWAG CRVs (Stryker Mk19s) and a medical CASEVAC section. Then I added all of the attachments a battalion commander could give an Infantry Company from the Support Company, that is an 81mm Mortar Det., Sniper Det, Javalin Det. and a 50Cal Det.

This, along with the IDFkitout.sqf in there should allow any mission maker to just pick and choose what they would like to place in their mission, be it a platoon with individual weapons detachments along side it, to a mechanised company, to whatever one needs. I have also included a small notes section titled "Irish Defence Forces Section" with a quick overview of how one operates and images of the formations used, mission makers can just include that in with the briefing so players can use this orbat effectively.

BMP (and BTR) company and batallion attachement ORBATs made by me can be found here. Available in vanilla russians and RHS russians (RHS vehicles not yet included) Planning to have a remake that use uo_ru85 when I get back from vacation. Included in the thread are common ways soviet mech inf would be deployed and common attachments. Some of the changes are outlined in later posts I made; be sure to read the thead. Also, templates may have duplication or JIP issues, remember to double check when using them.Lastly, some of the loadouts are old and may not use the new ACE functions.

I have taken Toadball's gear script/orbat and fixed all errors, ruck spawning issues and equipment. It can still use some work but I have been telling people to take the gear script out of my mission as Toadball's was intended to be used as a reference for the type of gear they have, rather than a functioning gear script. I will check through it and would be willing to upload it following Toadball's consent.

To Tinfoil, thank you for putting this together, that thread was getting crowded!

Nothing was stopping people from using the script from my mission before, I had to change pretty much everything in the script before it was usable for my mission. I have not uploaded it anywhere, the only place it is accessible is in the mission file which is available to everyone through the server. It will remain this way without Toadball's consent for upload.

Nice stuff tin.

This supersedes my previous ORBATs/TO&E for British forces, currently includes:

  • Light Role Infantry Company Orbats (1976-Present)
  • Support Weapons Company orbat (1976-Present)
  • Notes on Artillery (Still a work in progress)

Individual equipment is listed so you can fit it into your preferred gear/equipment script method.

Still to do:

Mechanised infantry (FV432) company

Mechanised Support Weapons Company

Example briefing.

The document will continue to be updated as and when possible, previous download links are no longer functional.

All the Russian 4 man HQ stuff is incorrect and means that the platoon can't fit in the vehicles.

Are you talking about my templates? Im sure I have 2 or 3 man platoon HQ elements in all of my loadouts.

Most of the nl85 orbats need updating because of either new information about the unit organization or new addons added more fitting to the orbat. I'll try to update them asap.

Anyone got some references about a German Army recon platoon?  I am specifically looking for the ORBAT of a recon platoon of the 5th company (heavy company) of the Jaegerbattalion 292.

Wikipedia says that usually the Fennek would be used and if I remember correctly, that vehicle could only take three men.  Therefore I would assume that the platoon is differently structured than a normal rifle platoon.

The Heavy Company (5th Company) of the Jägerbatallion 292 in 2005 (post HS V(N)) was structured as follows:

d0a5114b8d882d1913f84faea695f445.png

From left to right:

  • Company HQ Squad (13 personnel total)

  • Autocannon Platoon (14)
    • Platoon HQ Team (4)
    • 5x Wiesel Mk 20 Team (5x2)
  • Recon Platoon (21)
    • Platoon HQ Team (3)
    • 5x Recon Team (5x3).
    • 2x Exploration & Surveillance Team (2x2)

The Recon Platoon was initially equipped with LKW 0,5 t gl Wolf, but later got the SpWg Fennek.

What specifically do you need to know?

EDIT: maybe we should outsource template questions/discussions into another thread to keep things more clean...

EDIT: maybe we should outsource template questions/discussions into another thread to keep things more clean...

I was interested in the composition of the recon element.  From other sources I read that it consists of 6x recon squad (probably including platoon HQ) and 2x surveillance team.  However, I found no indication whatsoever, how these squads are structured.  How many men per squad/ team, what kind of men, what kind of vehicles and how many, what kind of gear, etc.  As I said above, to my knowledge the Fennek only holds up to three people.  So how many vehicles would a squad have and how are the teams split up?  Same questions for the surveillance teams.

If I may bother you even more, is this intel, especially in regards to the mortar platoon, still more or less accurate?  I already "built" a mortar platoon based on different sources I found (unconfirmed sources) and so far I got 6 tubes, split up in three squads (à 2 tubes + ammunition).  In my setup the FOs are part of the mortar platoon HQ, together with the "FDC" and teams to prepare the mortars (in terms of laying them correctly etc.).

My goal is to replicate the 5th company as detailed as possible, although I will leave out the two Wiesel platoons as we have nothing in the modpack that could compensate for them.

// Feel free to move this post and the one above to a different thread, I did not want to open a new one for this reply.  You can also PM me, though other people might be interested in the same.

Glorious YPRs updated(PaInf YPR)

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zh21hmled2hax3b/NL85_Mechinf.utes.rar

Some things to note with this orbat(and I'd like if you could also put this in the info by the orbat):

General info on 1985 Dutch organisation:

http://dafyp408.nl/ information on the DAF YP-408 based armoured infantry units.
