Building model tanks

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Right now I'm building a 1/35 scale model Panzer IV Ausf. H, and I need some advice when it comes to putting together and putting on the tracks. They're hard plastic so I'm at a loss. Any advice would be great. Also any colour pictures of Panzer IV late war would be great!

Complete the wheels and rollers first, then just glue up the track pieces one by one. At least that's how I did it.

(This reminds me that I still have a Challenger 1, a Tiger and a 1,5 m long Bismarck that awaits completion since 8-10 years.)

As Goosko said, complete the wheels first, you should have two long pieces of the track, these go under and above the wheels where the model touches the ground.

The actual parts that need to be connected piece by piece are pretty easy to do, glue each individual piece and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes, long enough for it to connect but not long enough for it to grab a shape, when its at that stage you need to glue the piece to the two big tracks and give it its shape.

@Andre

Ebay is your best bet, thats where I get mine from, its typically cheaper by 50% then the local shops.

Heres a old 1/35 Academy M60A1 Magach[iDF] that I worked on like years ago, if anyone wants I can take pictures of more models that I built, T70, Abrams, M113, Merkava, Chieftain and a bunch of airplanes.

I've only built two, a Super Hornet and a P-51

I lost the tailhook during construction, keep forgetting to order a new one...

P-51

This was a simpler model, but my Grandpa flew one and as he grew sick I rushed to build it for him. Sadly he passed before he could see it, but he was buried with it.

Anyone into war40k by any chance

I'm into 40k. I paint Dark Angels Space Marines, and I own an unpainted Ork army.

I might be able to post some pics.

At PAX east I walked by a bunch of Fantasy + 40K armies, made me miss my miniature gaming days. Maybe in 10 years when everyone has personal 3d printers and I can just print up a set of minis I'll get back into it.

Used to collect when I was about 14, big ultramarines army. Brother had Black Templars.

Got increasingly more difficult to afford and explain to the opposite sex to keep up.

If only the rules for 40K and FB weren't so terrible. Kind'a fun to mod and paint the models, but the games are... urkh. Ended up giving away 5000pts of Space Marines and threw away most of my Empire-army. Still have my Greatswords in a box somewhere though. Those were friggin' marvelously painted. Think I used 14 layers just for the metal.
