I was supposed to be mine clearing for 1 squad. When 1 SL DC'd I gave my long range radio to the new acting SL and said I was going to clear the next bit. When this began they were about 100-150m behind me (as I wished to ensure there was a significant distance cleared in case we took contact so the squad would have sufficient clear space infront of them to make a decision to move forward or back). I took contact and ran to the nearest cover which was a hill about 50m to my right. At this point, I could hear over the radio Deadly coordinating the squad bounding up, so I cleared the path to the next hill, and stopped to fire because I could see the enemy SMAW gunner attempting to fire on second squad. At this point there were at least 2 hills between us and I lost radio contact. I held my position and began firing onto the enemy as I was now on their flank (as the marker in the plan indicated), and as far as I knew the squad was only 150-250m behind me and moving to my position. If I had stayed with the squad, I would not have been able to effectively clear any mines as it was open terrain and if we encountered a mine all of us would have been screwed. I was never given orders to do anything to the contrary, and at the time I was kicked I was waiting for the squad to catch up to me, which as far as I still know they were attempting to do. I fail to see how there was "more correct" course of action, as my only options when I started taking fire were to move up, further away from the squad, or to run back across the open field to their last position. "Ramboing" should not be applied to people who are following orders to the best of their ability.
"Ramboing" is explicitly not following orders. I was following the plan, and had not been issued any orders to the contrary. If SgtDeadly had (or perhaps he did and I did not receive the transmission due to terrain interference) contacted me with new orders I would have tried my best to comply. I admit I was probably too far from the squad, but in the heat of the moment I was focused on clearing a path for them while trying to not die and I kept pushing forward assuming they were doing the same.
